This venture is the natural evolution of the hospitality design practice that Eric Adolfsen and Carlton DeWoody have built over the last seven years at their studio Reunion Goods & Services. In that time, both have worked with prominent real estate developers and hospitality groups across the country. In launching Format, Adolfsen and DeWoody have partnered with Jake Sokol, who has more than ten years of experience in real estate, most recently at JMC Holdings.

Before joining Format, Jake acquired over $650 million of commercial real estate at JMC Holdings, where he oversaw acquisitions. In this role, he constructed a portfolio that outperformed the market and generated annual returns in excess of 30% on realized deals. Prior to JMC, he spent three years at Greenwich Capital where he originated in excess of $2 billion of CMBS loans.
A New Yorker, Jake received his BA from Northwestern University and his MBA from Columbia Business School.
Carlton DeWoody is a co-founder and managing partner of Format. Carlton oversees Format’s West Coast office, leading creative direction and investment strategy across its projects.

Carlton studied at Tulane University and received his bachelor's degree from The New School.
As a fourth-generation New Yorker and member of the Rudin family, Carlton is building upon his real estate roots with a narrative-driven approach to design and architecture.
